Ally Abroad in Skagway, Alaska

Another stop on our Princess Alaskan Cruise was the charming Skagway, Alaska. The first thing we did when we got off the ship was begin our day at Glacial Coffeehouse. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service made it the perfect place to begin our day for a few minutes. Whether you're looking for a specialty coffee, espresso, or a quick pastry, it's a great local café and breakfast spot.

Journey to the Yukon Suspension Bridge

Our excursion took us beyond Skagway and into British Columbia, Canada where the scenery became even more spectacular. The drive itself was worth the trip, with towering mountains, waterfalls, and winding roads that offered incredible views around every turn.

The highlight was crossing the Yukon Suspension Bridge. Standing in the middle of the bridge, surrounded by rugged wilderness, was both exciting and peaceful.

It's one of those places where photos never quite capture how impressive it feels in person.

The Canadian landscape is wild, beautiful, and incredibly serene. It was definitely one of the highlights of our Alaska cruise. We got to snap a picture by the Welcome to Alaska sign on our way back.

Exploring Historic Downtown Skagway

After we got back from our tour, we started by simply wandering through town, and honestly, that's one of the best ways to experience Skagway. The wooden boardwalks, colorful historic buildings, and mountain backdrop make it feel like you've stepped back into the Gold Rush era.

Every street has something to discover, whether it's a unique local shop, a historic landmark, or another incredible view of the surrounding peaks.

Even without a set itinerary, walking around downtown was one of our favorite parts of the day.

Skagway Brewing Company

Of course we stopped at Skagway Brewing Company for a drink. It's a lively spot with a welcoming atmosphere and a great place to relax after a morning of exploring.

You can enjoy craft beer and their locally brewed selections are worth trying. I got the Alaskan Hard Seltzer and it is a must to try. It was exactly the kind of casual spot we were hoping for before continuing our afternoon.

A Sweet Stop at Klondike Doughboy

No visit to Skagway would be complete without something sweet, so we made our way to Klondike Doughboy.

Their famous fried dough is served warm and topped with your choice of delicious toppings. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It’s an indulgence that's absolutely worth it. It's easy to see why this little shop has become such a popular stop for visitors.

Final Thoughts

Skagway turned out to be an enjoyable stop on our Alaskan cruise.

Walking through the charming downtown, taking in the incredible scenery on the drive to the Yukon Suspension Bridge, enjoying a drink at Skagway Brewing Company, and treating ourselves at Klondike Doughboy, made for a day we'll remember for a long time.
