A Vampire Diaries Fan’s Ultimate Guide 🧛‍♀️✨

If you’re a The Vampire Diaries fan, a trip to Covington, Georgia (Mystic Falls) is nothing short of magical. This charming Southern town served as the primary filming location for The Vampire Diaries. From iconic homes to unforgettable tour stops, here’s everything you need to know about visiting Covington for the ultimate Vampire Diaries experience.

Start Your Journey with Mystic Falls Tours

The best way to explore Covington as a fan is with Mystic Falls Tours. We booked this ahead of time online. The tour was full and we had two trolleys. The tour is led by knowledgeable guides who share behind-the-scenes stories, filming secrets, and fun trivia. The tour brings the show to life in a way that’s both immersive and nostalgic.

You’ll ride through historic neighborhoods, see dozens of filming locations from The Vampire Diaries and other shows & movies filmed there. Whether you’re Team Damon, Team Stefan, Team Klaus, or just love the atmosphere of Mystic Falls, this tour is an absolute must.

What You’ll See on Mystic Falls Tours:

-Elena Gilbert’s house

-Lockwood Mansion

-The Mystic Falls town square

-Caroline’s house

-The Mystic Grill

-The Old Witch House

-Filming locations

The Lockwood Mansion

One of the most iconic stops on the tour is the Lockwood Mansion. This stunning estate served as the Lockwood family home, where many epic moments in the series took place.

Seeing it in person is breathtaking and the grand architecture, the long driveway, and the surrounding scenery make it easy to imagine Tyler Lockwood and his family living there.

While the mansion isn’t open for interior tours, simply standing outside is enough to give any fan chills. You can only go inside the gates to the Lockwood Mansion if you go on the Mystic Falls tour. The owners of the mansion even came out and talked to us and answered any questions we had.

The Covington Welcome Center

Next up is a fan favorite, the Covington Welcome Center. Inside, you’ll find Vampire Diaries memorabilia, filming photos, and souvenirs. This is perfect for fans who want to take a piece of Mystic Falls home. There is also memorabilia from other shows that were filmed in Covington too. You need to take a walk through the Welcome Center and look at everything.

Mystic Grill Restaurant

Mystic Grill restaurant, where you can actually dine and enjoy Southern inspired dishes. Eating here feels surreal when you remember how many scenes took place just outside those doors. The outside looks just like the show. Inside the restaurant, the menu is themed for Vampire Diaries. Be sure to walk around inside because the cast has signed the menus and they have them framed on the walls. Also, they have chairs in honor of Alaric and Stephen at the bar. We got the Clock Tower Burger and it was delicious. Go take your receipt and grab a blood bag in the Alley Store below the restaurant. Then sit out front of the Mystic Grill and sip the blood bag. You’ll feel as if you’re in the show.

Elena Gilbert’s House

No Vampire Diaries trip is complete without visiting Elena Gilbert’s house. This cozy white home is one of the most emotional locations from the series and remains a highlight for fans.

While it’s a private residence, you can view and photograph the exterior. Standing there, it’s impossible not to think about Elena, Damon, Stefan, and all the unforgettable moments that happened on that porch and front lawn.

If you take the Mystic Fall’s Tour, you can pay $20 to go onto Elena’s porch and take a picture in the swing.

Covington Shopping

The shops on the square embrace The Vampire Diaries vibe.

You can go get coffee, blood bags, & souvenirs all over the square. Some places to check out are:

Bread & Butter Bakery:

This adorable coffee shop has Vampire themed lattes, blood bags, Klaus coffee, Damon coffee, raspberry sweet tea wrapped with the names of all the characters, and you can see Damon Salvatore’s star out front of the store.

The Social Goat Tavern:

This is a delicious lunch stop. We got a blood bag here with vampire teeth attached. We also tried a shot of Brother’s Bourbon that Stephen & Damon created.

Frio Rolled Ice cream:

It is delicious and trying rolled ice cream in Mystic Falls is a must. I chose the Biscoff flavor.

The Alley Shop:

This little shop is located where many alley scenes were filmed in the show. It is right under the Mystic Grill. You can get t-shirts, souvenirs, blood bags, or vervain.

Bitten By:

This store is all vampire vibes. They have shirts of all kinds that say bitten by Stephen, Klaus, Damon, & etc.

Scoops:

This ice cream shop is adorable and has many flavors to choose from. There is also covered apples and old candy you can choose from too.

Why Covington Is Worth the Trip

Even beyond The Vampire Diaries, Covington is a beautiful town filled with historic charm, friendly locals, and walkable streets. Whether you’re visiting for a day or a weekend, it’s a destination that blends fandom with classic Southern hospitality. It’s basically the Hollywood of the South.

For fans, Covington isn’t just a town, it’s Mystic Falls! Seeing it in real life is an experience you’ll never forget.
