Budapest was a day trip we took on the train from Vienna.

Budapest was formed in 1873 when the cities of Buda and Pest were joined together, though they were separated by the Danube River.

Hungarian is the official language of Hungary and the currency is the Forint (HUF).

Budapest is the capital city of Hungary. Budapest had one of the prettiest train stations. It reminded me of a set from a Harry Potter movie.

We started off by doing a hop on and hop off bus tour through Budapest. We saw the beauty of Budapest on a double decker bus.

You have to try the chimney cake while in Budapest. It was a 10/10 experience. A chimney cake is incredibly popular in Budapest due to its delicious taste, unique baking process, and association with Hungarian tradition. The pastry/dessert has different varieties and they are located all throughout the city. Mine had a crunchy, sugary/cinnamon crust and a soft, doughy interior with Nutella inside. They made it fresh right in front of me! 🤤

Széchenyi Thermal Bath

Budapest is known for their thermal baths. I chose to try this one out while in Budapest. The Széchenyi Thermal Bath is a unique experience. I purchased my tickets online for $36. You need to bring flip flop and something to dry off with once you get out of the thermal bath. The bath temperature is hot and the vibrant yellow building was stunning to see while I enjoyed the bath. There are more baths in this spa, but I just stuck to enjoying the thermal bath outdoors.

Places to see in Budapest

  • Heroes’ Square

  • St. Stephen’s Basilica

  • Vajdahunyad Castle/Museum of Hungarian Agriculture

  • Vörösmarty Square

  • Matthias Church

  • Fisherman’s Bastion: this monument offers a fairytale-like setting with panoramic views over the Danube and the Parliament. This makes it one of the most iconic UNESCO World Heritage sights and is truly one of the best photography spots in Budapest.

I spent one day in Budapest and I am Hungary for more time there. 🇭🇺
