One word….magical!
Hallstatt was truly a fairy tale city! My sister and I saw one picture of Hallstatt and knew we had to go see it with our own eyes. To take in the surreal beauty this town has to offer.

Hallstatt is a very small place. You can walk from one end to the other in just fifteen minutes. With just a handful of sites, we just spent a day here. Hallstatt is a village located in the Salzkammergut region of Austria. It is situated on the shores of the Hallstatter. The village is surrounded by the Dachstein Alps.
Hallstatt is located in the German-speaking region of Austria. Hallstatt was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
It is truly indescribable. We took the train from Vienna to Hallstatt and it was a 3 hour train ride. We bought our tickets in advance online on the Omio website/app.
Once you get off the train at the cutest train stop, you buy a ferry ticket to get across to the town of Hallstatt. The ferry was 8 Euros round trip and it didn’t take longer than 6 minutes to arrive in the quaint town. The journey to the town was breathtaking on the ferry.

When we stepped off the ferry, we explored the city center first. We ate at the cutest restaurant and I got pizza, beer, and coffee. You need to take in the buildings in the city center and enjoy the peacefulness of this small town.

We then journeyed up to the right of the city to get the ‘postcard’ picture. You turn right and walk around 5 minutes to be able to see the landscape. It is slightly uphill too. It is not as far as you think up, but the view is breathtaking and picturesque. It looks like it is out of a Disney movie. Some say it inspired Frozen.

We then walked around the small town and went into shops for souvenirs, Austrian pastries, and just taking in the scenic walk. I even tried some Schnapps in one of the shops.
We then rode the funicular to the top of Hallstatt to see the Hallstatt Skywalk. You can take in the views of the surrounding mountains and scenery. You can even see the town of Hallstatt below. There is a restaurant here if you would like to eat at. There were limited spots when we went so we didn’t eat anything. We just took in the view on the sky walk.

I then had to visit the iconic salt mine. Hallstatt is the site of the world's oldest salt mine, which dates back 7,000 years. Salzwelten is the salt mine that is situated above the town of Hallstatt. You have to take the funicular there and then hike uphill for around 10 minutes. It was truly worth the hard trek to the salt mine.
The tour took around 1 hour and 20 minutes. I got to learn about the history of the salt mine, try some salt from the mine, tour the mine, touch the salt, slide down slides, and then ride a train out of the mine. This was an unforgettable experience and worth it all. They make you wear a suit they give you because it is cold and a tad dirty in the mine.
